GILMAN ADVICE

Hola Chicos!

I have a friend who has won the Gilman Award! Here is a little advice from her
"Having been an alternate twice, I advise anyone to start the application as soon as possible. In your essay, you should make it your own unique and inspiring story while also what a huge impact receiving this scholarship will have helping you with your travel expenses. I included personal stories of moving to the U.S. from Egypt and my father's recent illness. Also, there is a writing section for your plans after you come back, make sure you have only about one or two community service or educational projects and detail your plans.  I strongly advise you to have someone who is STRONG in essay writing to revise your essay and take it to as many people who are willing to look over it for you or give you additional hints. Wish you the best of luck on your travel experience! " Christina Maximos

Barcelona

I just returned to Alcala de Henares from Barcelona two days ago and it was awesome! I will have stories for days! My hostel was right by the beach and I met a really cool girl from Belgium there.I went to a club and the Picasso Museum and Chocolate Factory!  Good Stuff! I definitely recommend the Barcelona Bus Tour! One thing I have appreciated is, that no matter how different you speak or what your culture is, people are still people. They laugh and cry. Some are rude; some are nice. Good Times!

Transportation

Yesterday, or this morning, for lack of better words was very interesting! Tip for the day: When traveling be sure of where you are going and be aware. My peers and I enjoyed a wonderful day in Madrid yesterday! We rxperienced the delicious gastronomy of Spain and watched a pop performance by the locals. It was perfect until we caught the wrong train home, and the last one at that! Our phones  were dead and we had to seek advice of a stranger, Not Smart. However, he was a nice man and we caught a taxi which was very expensive btw! If you are ever in doubt ask and don't catch the wrong train home......Chow

Beautiful Valencia

The grass is sometimes greener on the other side...Sweet Valencia

Safety!

Valencia was beautiful! The aquarium is definitely worth seeing and the nightlife was exhilarating!  However, this brings me to my next topic. I was pick pocketed for over 300 euros and my friend's IPhone was stolen! Be safe and be aware. Keep your belongings secure especially In foreign places. Thieves are rampant at tourist sights and always on the prowl. I assumed because I was at the aquarium that I was secure.I was not.Do not think things won't happen to you because they can.Have fun,but be safe! Carry minimal amounts of cash and keep your belongings in front of you not behind you or on the side. My purse was easily accessible. Was Valencia worth losing that much money? No not for two days, however we pay for our experiences.

La vida Ahora!

Hola Chicos!

I just want to give a brief introduction about what is really going on here! The answer to that question is I don't know! I have been here in Spain for a week now and I must say I am overwhelmed! It is pretty awesome. So far I have been to Alcala De Henares and Madrid! I was supposed to go to Toledo today, but I spent my time waiting for a money gram so I missed that trip! Word of advice, Before you travel, make sure your bank is in order. I will be going to Valencia tomorrow I will let you guys know how that is! However, I am an exchange student from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and I will be here in Spain for two months! I will post pictures and answer any questions about studying broad. I will talk about things ranging from Gilman scholarship to safety to life here in Spain!  I will also post many pictures!
Is it worth it? So far, yes!
